Working it Till it Works
I will rely on what I have learned to get me through; I will work the tools of my program. Just for today, I will make every effort to practice program principles in all my affairs. In this way I can strengthen my recovery and grow in emotional sobriety. I want the tools of my program to be well practiced and in place so that I can draw on them when I need to; so that when I am shaky inside, feeling up against more than I can handle or wanting to isolate or give up, I have somewhere to turn. I will take my day a few hours at a time. If I can set a positive intention for the next few hours that is all I will ask of myself for now. Then, when I feel myself running out of steam I will set a positive intention for the few hours that follow. I will not generalize and catastrophize problems and blow them up so much that they take over my day. Rather I will meet them and work them by breaking my day down into manageable segments and meeting each segment as it arises, I will stay in the moment. I will put one foot in front of the other.
I have all the time in the world to grow
Never give in, never give in, never, never, never, never–in nothing, great or small, large or petty–never give in except to convictions of honor and good sense.
Winston Churchill
